It is a very foolish act to spread one's hand and beg for money. The Buddha has likened it to a person who eats a mango. The activities of any person are determined by the amount of his energy and knowledge. For example, Kisa Gotami and Patachara, who lived during the time of the Buddha. What factors influenced their loss of consciousness?
Patachara, because of her desires, eventually lost her husband and two children. If she had listened to the advice and instructions of her parents, she could have built a good future. But she suffered a very sad fate due to her unlimited desires and short-sighted decisions. But with the help of the Buddha that day, she made her life successful later. What would have happened to her if there had been no Buddha?
As Buddhists, we should be simple. Also, Buddhism has clearly shown how you should live as a layperson. But why don't you apply any of these examples and guidelines to your life? My son, this is a matter for you to examine yourself. Dear children, this is the time to think about whether you are also trying to become such a Patachara. But today, if you become a Patachara, the end result will be that you will also become an Ambapali. The reason for this is that even the Buddha was there to help the Patachara in those days. But remember that there are no Buddhas in today's society. Children, are you unable to live as a Uppalavanna? There is no inability. Although you cannot truly become a Uppalavanna Therani, you have the ability to become enlightened by incorporating at least a little of such virtues into your life.
Similarly, although Kisa Gotami was an intelligent and educated woman, she also faced unexpected hardships in life. Because of her love for her children, she walked from place to place carrying a dead body. She too was able to succeed in life under the guidance of the Buddha. We should learn to accept the good advice we receive without arguing. If Kisa Gotamiya had tried to give life to her child without listening to what the Buddha said, she would have fallen into another abyss. If so, would she have been able to understand the right path?
The reason for telling you all these things is to make our sons and daughters who are wandering astray despite having the right path understand the right path. So, no matter how much ability we have or how much money we have, we should try to be successful without misusing it. We can see countless people who have committed suicide and suffered because they spent their lives in vain by engaging in only the right activities during the time when they should understand what life is. They are the ones who are responsible for the deterioration of their lives.
Also, their parents will have to bear a serious responsibility in this regard. Just as we are accustomed to calling them by the words "mother", "father", "sister", "brother", etc. in childhood, we can see many sons and daughters who have gone astray and suffer because they are not properly explained about this and that. When we look at the society to see why they are suffering, it is seen that there are shortcomings of the parents and shortcomings of the children. Even though the parents work hard and fulfill the needs of the children well, do those children engage in learning properly during their education? Or do their parents not find out if they are engaged in other misdeeds, so those children have ruined their educational life by engaging in useless activities. It is a destruction that they have brought upon themselves. Since they do not engage in those activities during their education, they have to face many problems as a young person when they go to fulfill their social responsibilities.
The results of the problems faced by these people will also be experienced by their children one day, according to the following facts. Irregular sexual behavior
Marrying at an inappropriate age
Entering into inappropriate marriages
Ignorance about birth control or family planning methods
Facing economic problems
Breaking up marriages or maintaining irregular relationships
Many such factors hinder the learning process of children.
When discussing the issue of inappropriate marriages mentioned here, how many inappropriate marriages occur in today's society? It can be understood well when looking at this society. In some cases, a highly educated young woman is married to an illiterate young man or a person like a hired laborer. In such cases, many problems are likely to arise. When examining the reasons for this, some parents only consider wealth when arranging marriages for their children. Parents, rather than being concerned only with economics, you should also gain a good understanding of the knowledge, feelings, etc. of both. What do you think if your child is a farmer or a three-wheeler driver or someone engaged in hired labor? Since your child also does not have a formal job, he should marry a young woman with wealth and beauty and complete knowledge and be free from responsibilities. You should examine whether they will live happily after a marriage that is thought of in this way. Due to such unsuitable marriages, not only you or your married children will suffer in the future, but also the children born from them. In a marriage between a well-educated young woman and an illiterate young man, no matter how much the mother of the children tries to educate her children after giving birth, some fathers may try to interfere with the education of their daughter or son. The husband may come home using drugs and abuse them or otherwise create conflicts in the family environment.
Generally, an illiterate person may be interested only in his sexual needs. A wife who has a good knowledge of her husband's hobbies will have to behave in a way that is necessary to fulfill her husband's needs, even if she is reluctant. Due to that fact, she will not be able to properly educate an educated child as a mother. Surveys have shown that such misdeeds occur in families living in slums, coastal poverty-stricken areas and in difficult areas.
We see the damage caused to society by such mistakes caused by unsuitable marriages. We should fulfill our duties as parents to prevent such mistakes from being seen in society in the future. If such situations spread, there will be no shortage of families living under pressure, as well as children in society. As parents, you should be determined to raise your children with the ultimate desire to give good children to society, rather than just giving birth to children. Until then, the pressure and crises that arise in family environments will not end.
