When a house is on fire, it is possible to get some use out of everything that is taken out of it, but what is the use of everything that is burned in it? We can get comfort from the good things we have done during our life, but we cannot get comfort from everything that we have not done, except mental stress. This is good advice. But we should ask ourselves carefully with our minds and wisdom who in this world is subject to this advice.
One day 2600 years ago, the King of Kosala went to the Buddha in great fear and began to tremble. Then the Buddha asked, "O king, what is the reason for your great fear?" "Yes, sir, I saw sixteen very terrible dreams last night. From the moment I saw those dreams, my mind has been filled with great fear. That is because, sir, all those dreams were very distorted." If so, O king, if you tell me some of those dreams, I can interpret them. Hearing this, the king of Kosala described one dream in this way.
Sir, I saw that the trees that had grown for about a year had borne good and fruitful fruits. What is the reason for this, sir?
Sir, this is not a very strange dream. The result of this will be that an unrighteous king will arise in this country in the future. At that time, men and women who are intoxicated with lust and greed for sex will marry at a young age. Since they do so out of lustful motives, the children born to them will be of weak intellect, lascivious, and sensual motives. Then a group of people will arise in society who do not know good and bad, as well as the system of ethics. There will be frequent conflicts and riots among them. Thus the Buddha preached to the King of Kosala.
When we look at that fact with an inquiring eye, this process has taken place in the same way in today's socialized environment. Similarly, many children living in today's society are trying to behave in lustful thoughts and through them they are trying to get rid of all the obstacles. This is because their parents are not able to give them any advice to get rid of the darkness of ignorance. If they both know very well who the mother and father are and fulfill their role in the child who sees the light of this world through their own milk, then we can say that they have given the right child and the right man to this world. But just by giving birth to children or just by giving milk to them when they cry, you cannot become a mother and just by fulfilling the happiness that those children ask for in the same way, you cannot become a right father.
We can go to a shop and buy everything we need for money. But is it possible to get the attention and affection of parents in that way for their children? We need to ask ourselves this. Many parents in today's society have not entered into marriage on any basis. I will reveal the basic reason for stating it that way. If they entered into marriage on a permanent basis, then why do they forget the protection and affection of their children based only on the pursuit of money after entering into marriage? Someone argues that they are seeking money for the future of their children. No, that is a completely wrong idea. One should build a house so that they can live well without being affected by the rains, winds, etc., and not so that they can constantly suffer from the sun, rains, winds, and flies and mosquitoes. But today, such a group of scenes are happening in our society. What is that? Unable to even earn enough to cover their daily expenses, they get married and give their children away. Then they send their children to school for a while. They earn a little money by doing odd jobs and make their children successful in their early lives. Later, the money they earn is not enough to fulfill all those tasks. Then, various quarrels arise in the house. They are tempted to use alcohol as a solution to those quarrels. This creates a more problematic environment than before.
The above-mentioned situation is changing a little today. How is that? Because the wealth earned by their husbands is not enough, wives are tempted to seek the pleasures that are not fulfilled by their husbands from their husbands. We have also seen that after such vices are revealed, the end of their lives is death. Otherwise, they have had to spend their last lives in prisons. What was the basic reason for all this? Isn't it because the basic foundation of their lives was not created correctly? Isn't that why?
It is true that we are all human beings. But if we try to get rid of the problems we have, rather than knowingly facing a set of problems, wouldn't that be a great relief for human life? If we try to understand the reality of the universe and human life, rather than swimming around in this ocean of samsara, intoxicated by delusion and intoxicated by lust, searching for a corner, we can be happy that we have done good for this human life we have received. If we don't do that, we will have to wander in this world like a madman who has become even more confused.
—“Monks, these beings have a youthful period. During that period, they are intoxicated with youthful enthusiasm and act immorally in body, speech, and mind.
This is how the Buddha spoke about the youthful enthusiasm. Therefore, even though we may not be surprised by the actions taking place in society today, we should not try to distort our thinking. If we act in such a distorted way, we will suffer the consequences for the entire society.
If you are a person who is obsessed with lust, keep in mind that you will meet the same fate as a dog that has eaten a piece of meat. Ask yourself what kind of suffering you will have to endure in the end and reap the benefits.
